Galena Community Update Sept. 10, 2025

Mr. Salter – Principal
- We are looking forward to a visit from our School Board Representative, Christine Hull, on September 22nd. There are so many things about which we are proud of Galena, that it will be a quick moving exhibition of all things Grizzly.
- A reminder to parents and families that attendance at the assembly on Friday is required. Last year, we had many students attempting to leave campus during assembly, so this year, we have teachers and administrators at the doors ensuring that everyone attends, and the turnout was amazing!
Mrs. Nelson – Assistant Principal
Assessment
The PSAT will be administered at Galena High School October 14-17. Sophomores can take the test for free. Sophomores can sign up using this link: https://forms.office.com/r/Hz9ZEghS7a
Juniors who take the test could qualify for the National Merit Scholarship program. Benefits of National Merit Recognition
- Scholarships: Students may earn both one-time and renewable scholarships.
- College Admissions: Recognition can provide a competitive advantage in the admissions process.
- Prestige: This nationally recognized academic honor enhances a student’s academic resume.
If a junior is interested in taking the test, they will need to pay $18 to the bookkeeper by September 15th. Once the fee is paid, they will be registered for the exam. Questions? Please contact Mrs. Nelson or your child’s counselor.
Internships
WCSD is excited to offer group internship opportunities this spring with Renown Health, KUNR Youth Media and in the field of Engineering. These hands-on experiences give students a chance to explore careers, build skills and connect with local professionals.

Mrs. Leslie – Administrative Assistant
- Please visit our school Mascot Shop, you can shop all year long.
Mr. Tanner – Dean of Students
- This is our drop-off process for students that are being dropped off in the morning. Please follow these steps:
- Enter the school campus on the west side, using the access road.
- Drive all the way down to the turnaround at the south end of the school.
- Circle back and pull into the designated yellow drop-off zone.
- Please pull forward as far as possible before letting your child out of the car. This will help the line move efficiently.
- After dropping off your child, continue driving north on the access road to exit the campus.
- Unless you need to come onto campus for school business, we ask that you do not drive in the main parking lot during drop-off times.
- Please see the attached map for a visual of the new traffic flow. If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out. We appreciate your partnership in making our arrival and dismissal processes safe and effective.
Mrs. Taylor – Counselor
