Galena Community Update August 27, 2025
Mr. Salter – Principal
- If you are interested in joining the “Open Field” baseball practice sessions this fall, please see the QR code outside the Athletic Director’s Office. We are actively involved in preparing opportunities for baseball skills improvement this fall, and in hiring a new coach for the Spring. There is also an attached document with important information
- Thanks to all the families who came to the Open House last week. It was great to meet you all and talk about our programs and projects.
- The Galena Outdoor Academy successfully completed our 1st field trip last week to Sand Harbor State Park for kayak safety training. It was an amazing opportunity supported by Tahoe Adventure Company, and we experienced kayakers along with first time on the water kayakers! Thanks to Mr. Wilkinson and Ms. Silva-Sampaio being our Galena Outdoor Teachers, and to Mr. Tanner for working out the logistics.
Mrs. Nelson – Assistant Principal –

Mrs. Sullivan – Bookkeeper
- Thank you for paying for student fees on Infinite Campus, but if you are an “in-person” type of person, I’m always here to help youand can take payment at the window.
Mr. Tanner – Dean of Students
- We’ve been working with Raley’s and the 76 Station to address some theft that is taking place at lunchtime. So far, we’ve addressed several Galena students who were caught on camera either taking food and not paying for it or taking food and eating it before weighing it at the register. Please speak to your students about the honoring the local businesses.
Mrs. Royce – Dean of Students
Dear Galena High School Families,
It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Dean of Students at Galena High School. In just a short time, I have already enjoyed meeting many of our students, and I look forward to partnering with families as we support the academic, social, and emotional growth of every student.
I am honored to bring my background in Special Education, English Language Acquisition and Development, Gifted and Talented education, and Curriculum and Instruction to serve our wonderful school community. My goal is to ensure that every student feels supported, challenged, and celebrated for their unique strengths.
Please know that my door is always open. I welcome your collaboration and encourage you to reach out if I can support you or your student in a positive and meaningful way. Together, I am confident we will continue to make Galena High School a place where students thrive.
I am excited to begin this journey with you and to be part of such an incredible community.
Warmly,
Mrs. Royce –Maria.Royce@WashoeSchools.net
